1A State Quarterfinal Results

Six northern region basketball teams prevailed as the 1A East and West girls team swept

All-North semis for the girls; pair of 2 seeds win in boys bracket

Six northern region basketball teams prevailed in the Class 1A state tournament quarterfinals Thursday night as the 1A East and West girls team swept. 

All four semifinal games are at Reno High School on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. The state championship games are Saturday at Reno at noon (girls) and 2 p.m. (boys).

 

1A Girls

The three-time defending state champion Pyramid Lake, the No. 1 seed from the West, took down No. 2S Laughlin, 67-24, at Reno High School. The Lakers will meet No. 2E Owyhee in Friday’s semifinals at 3:30 p.m. The Braves defeated No. 1C Round Mountain, 54-39, at Spanish Springs. 

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1E Eureka, which was last year’s state runner-up, is one win away from returning to the championship after defeated No. 2C Beatty, 38-17, at Spanish Springs. The Vandals will face No. 2W Smith Valley on Friday at 6:50 p.m. at Reno. The Bulldogs knocked out No. 1S Pahranagat Valley, 49-36.

 

1A Boys

No. 1W Smith Valley defeated No. 2S Word of Life, 77-40, at Reno and will face No. 1S Spring Mountain in Friday’s semifinal at 5;10 p.m. The Southern Nevada school defeated No. 2 Eureka, 59-52, at Spanish Springs. 

On the other side, both of the No. 2 seeds won.

No. 2C Tonopah took the lead late to defeat No. 1E Owyhee, 35-33, at Spanish Springs, while No. 2W Mineral County upset No. 1S Pahranagat Valley, 59-51. Tonopah and Mineral County meet on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
