The 3A East swept the West in Monday’s regional quarterfinals hosted by the top seeds. 

On the boys side, No. 1 Fernley and No. 2 Fallon from the East won by double digits. The Vaqueros defeated No. 4 Truckee, 66-36, while the Greenwave knocked out No. 3 Wooster, 85-56. The lower seeded East teams – No. 3 Dayton and No. 4 Spring Creek – also grabbed double-digit wins. The Dust Devils defeated No. 2 Incline, 73-57, while the Spartans took down No. 1 South Tahoe, 69-52. 

In Friday’s semifinals, Fallon will play Spring Creek at 8:30 p.m. for the second time in two weeks, and Fernley takes its Lyon County rival at 5:10 p.m. at Wooster High School in Reno.

On the girls side, one game is still pending after Spring Creek defeated Lowry in Monday’s play-in game. No 4. Spring Creek travels to No. 1 South Tahoe on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The winner will face No. 2 Fallon, which defeated No. 3 Sparks, 64-13, at 6:50 p.m. on Friday.

No. 1 Fernley handled No. 4 Incline, 75-11, on Monday while No. 3 Elko clipped No. 2 Truckee, 29-23, in the tournament’s only game decided by single digits. Fernley and Elko will face off on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinals. 

The semifinal winners advance to Saturday’s regional championship and next week’s state tournament.
