Lowry leads 3A North by single digits

Buckaroos, Indians send 11 to semifinals

FALLON – Lowry rode a wave of early pins and technical falls to take a 104.5 to 95.5 lead over Spring Creek on the first day of the NIAA Class 3A Northern Region wrestling tournament.

Hosting the event at Churchill County High School, the regional meet saw Lowry push 11 wrestlers into the semifinal round, matching the count of fourth-place Elko. With only nine points separating the top two teams, Saturday’s championship semifinals and consolation rounds will determine both the regional title and which athletes secure a trip to the state championships. The top-four wrestlers advance to state.

Lowry

The Buckaroos capitalized on their depth, advancing 11 wrestlers to the championship semifinals. The Lowry semifinalists are Malachi Blanco at 106, Pete Bengochea at 113, Carlos Gomez at 120, Edward Jones at 120, Ethan Garcia at 126, Kruz Gomez at 132, Teyo Gomez at 138, Dante Bautista at 144, Odyn Santos at 150, Giovanni Monroy at 165, Randy Patterson at 190 and Terrance Mattson at 215 . Lowry also has Bradyn Snyder, Jayden Howard, Jose Villagomez and Regan Kenner still battling in the consolation brackets.

Spring Creek

The Spartans remain within striking distance with nine semifinalists and a strong contingent in the consolation rounds. Spring Creek wrestlers in the semifinals are Asher Windous at 106, Damon Tilger at 113, Jared Tilger at 132, Col Williams at 157, Colton Cunningham at 165, Skyler Mangel at 175, Antonio Bautista at 215 and Stephen Stewart-Jenkins at 285. Spartans still active in the consolation bracket include Beau Reese, Landon Conner, Omar Aboytes, Nick Lusk and Bryce Silva.

Fernley

The Vaqueros hold third place with 10 semifinalists leading their scoring effort. Fernley semifinalists include Archie Mendez at 106, Clayton DeGolyer at 113, Nathan Pritchard at 144, Isaid Solis at 150, Brody Jones at 150, Jayse Jones at 157, Riley McCullar at 175, Isaiah Mutte at 190, Keon Kreller at 215 and Calvin Bacon at 285. Fernley also has Brayden Cruz, Wyatt McGinnis, Kayden Paredes and Jayden Esparza still wrestling in consolations.

Elko

The Indians matched Lowry for the most semifinalists with 11 wrestlers advancing on the championship side. Semifinalists for Elko are Bradley Nelson at 106, Aaron Goss at 120, Gabriel Flores at 144, Kody Goss at 157, Riott Duke at 157, Zuriel Mildren at 165, Hagen Robinson at 175, Darren Foster at 190, Raymond Bowser at 215, Pedro Mercado at 285 and Hubert Sharp at 285. Elko maintains Trey Jones and Tyson Delmore in the consolation rounds.

Fallon

The host Greenwave pushed six wrestlers into the semifinals while keeping six others alive in the consolation bracket. Fallon semifinalists are Braylon Byrd at 120, Trey Bradley at 126, Andre Green at 132, Carson Melendy at 165 and Alijah Juarez at 175. Greenwave wrestlers still in the hunt through consolations include Kelton McAfee, Manuel Barros, Evan Garcia, Neal McIntyre, Wyatt Lambert and Ashton McCourtney.

Wooster

The Colts have four semifinalists and the largest group of consolation survivors remaining in the tournament. Wooster semifinalists are Andy Chavarria Morales at 138, Caden Sae-Wong at 144 and Xavier Glover at 285. Wooster also keeps Noah Bowles, Jesus Jimenez, Kenet Paguada, Caine Sae-Wong, Mason Ottervanger, Anthony Benavides Monroy and Alex Rodriguez Gutierrez active in the consolation bracket.

South Tahoe

The Vikings enter Day 2 with five semifinalists looking to punch their tickets to state. South Tahoe semifinalists are Aidan Domaoan at 106, William Causing at 144, Brady Higgins at 150 and Erik Burkett at 190. South Tahoe wrestlers still competing in the consolations are Elijah Carranza, Jack Bergquist, Gabriel Engles, Jackson dean and luis salas.

Truckee

The Wolverines advanced four wrestlers to the semifinals during Friday’s action. Semifinalists for Truckee are Ace Pena at 113, Joe Giles at 126, Keb Schnurrenberger at 126 and Jack Ridgel at 132. Still wrestling for Truckee are Leo Posada, Ryder Boyd and several others in the consolation rounds.

Dayton

The Dust Devils did not advance a wrestler to the semifinals but have nine athletes still active in the consolation brackets. Still wrestling for Dayton are Ajay Cunha, Cade Schnieder, Cash Schneider, Isaac Ervin, Kasen Barbee and Jacob Hoffman among others.

Debbie Smith

The Mavericks have two wrestlers in the semifinals following the first day of competition. Semifinalists for Debbie Smith are Rudy Hernandez-Soto at 126 and Steven Burlingham at 138. Kaile Della Torre remains active in the consolation rounds for the team.

Sparks

The Railroaders are represented in the semifinals by Travys Solis at 138. Sparks has no other wrestlers remaining in the tournament bracket.
